My grandkids are at me to get Incredimail, they love to send and receive wiz bang emails. What I would like know is, it a safe program to install and will it conflict with any of my Wincustomise stuff (I have almost everything). I heard on some grapevine it can cause conflicts. Any advise appreciated

I think I heard it has some spyware in the program. But I could be wrong. As always, advice is always a good thing before dipping your feet in a new program. I applaud you!

I have been using Incredimail for about two years and object desktop components for about 1 year, and I've never been aware of a conflict. Also, I do not believe it contains spyware as I use ad-aware, spybot search and destroy and spyblaster and it's never shown up in any of those programs as spyware. I think incredimail is a good, clean, fun email client.

Just out of curiosity...what on earth are wiz bang emails?

As I said:

But I could be wrong.

Maybe I was thinking of another email proggy...

Lady crissy14. Oh, sorry my age is showing. I thought it was a well known phrase. To me it means somthing ordinary, all tarted up with bells and whistles to look good. Underneath all the gloss its still ordinary (like an email)however my grandkids love coloured backgrounds, animations, sounds etc etc. Hense wiz bang emails. and thank you very much for your recommendation

When you first install incredimail, you should read the installation files. It does say there that the program does send information to Incredimail, intended to help them tailor offers and options based on the type of emails you send. ....all harmless enough, but to me, that is still sending personal info to a third party. Smacks a little of Microsoft's tactics, but if you've nothing to hide... don't worry.
I used it for a little while, but outlook express is also quite adaptable, whereby you can include animated gif images, use backgrounds, embed sound files in the form of .wav and .midi etc, and still attach any other file you want to send with your email.
As I said.... if you dont care about the collected info, then go for it!

Also, if you use "Zonealarm" you can stop this info being sent, under the program control options.

From Incredimail's web site:

IncrediMail uses information such as IncrediMail content statistics in order to present users with the "Most Popular" lists in the IncrediMail Online Gallery. That way we can meet user preferences, and continuously enhance the IncrediMail product. This is the only kind of non-personally identifiable information used by IncrediMail.

However I found this review:

this is a great program with great features and it is easy to use. two things to point out though!it has some spyware in it which is very easy to get rid of. it also is quite unstable and sometimes crashes my computer and mine is a windows xp pentium 4 2.40ghz.

to get rid of the spyware all you need to do is fully exit incredimail and make sure it is all shut down. then go to "c:\program files\incredimail\bin. then find imhook.dll and delete it. if you don't trust me make a back up of the file first.

oh yes, one more thing, if you have any probs with the program please don't use tech support because they don't listen to you and they e-mail back with the most stupid solutions. alot of the time they don't e-mail back at all.

BTW, Outlook Express can also have the bells abd whistles you mentioned, make sure that you have the option checked for recieving HTML type emails, and as for sending them checkout the wallpapers and backgrounds within Outlook Express.

But do remember a lot of people don't like to recieve emails with all the gunk included

Especially people connecting through a modem!

And tech geeks, as all of the ones I know do not read HTML emails, for security (virus) reasons.

I love the stationaries. It's a fun email program. Kids & adults will have with Incredimail. My kids will enjoy it when they get older.

"it also is quite unstable and sometimes crashes my computer and mine is a windows xp pentium 4 2.40ghz."

What the heck?? Who the heck wrote that article, Paxx? Aside from the frightening lack of capitalization, since when does system -speed- have anything to do with the stability of a program? ^.^ Heh. Sorry, I just found that rather amusing.

I got incredimail but on my windows xp pentium 4 2.40ghz...just coincidence...in runs incredibly, incredibly slower that is, than outlook. I had to switch back to outlook because I am impatient. Now a good email client is thunderbird from mozilla, but I don't know if it supports "whiz-bang" emails. Alas it doesn't work with webmail so I can't use it.

...and another opinion. Been using IM for almost a year and runs as smooth as glass. WinXP, cable modem. Very stable for me. I love the "cutsie" stuff and that's why I have it. Just thought I'd share my experience with it!
